Dutch men rally past Panthers

PELLA- Falling behind 1-0 early didn’t dissuade the Central College men’s soccer team on its way to a 3-1 win against Greenville University (Ill.) Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers (0-3) found the back of the net in the 13th minute, using a long free kick attempt into the box to strike first.

Freshmen Lucas De la Cuba (freshman, Lima, Peru, Ankeny Centennial HS) and Anthony Davis (freshman, Albertville, Minn., St. Michael-Albertville HS) set up the equalizer, finding Isaiah Guyton (sophomore, Davenport, Bettendorf) running free down the middle to tie the game in the 19th minute.

De La Cuba notched a second assist when his free kick went off the post and Mason Simmons (junior, Springfield, Ill.) buried the rebound in the 33rd minute. Davis also recorded a second assist when he connected with the streaking Nick DeVoss (sophomore, Lee’s Summit, Mo., St. Michael HS) in the 62nd minute for a third Central goal.

Greenville outshot Central 18-14 and forced Morgan Finkenbinder (junior, Elkhorn, Neb., Skutt Catholic HS) to make seven saves

Central hosts the University of Wisconsin-Stout at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
