McDonald’s Blocks Lead to First Heart POW Award
Oskaloosa–John McDonald (Jr., Houston, Texas, Industrial Technology) came up big on a pair of opponent kicking attempts, and for his efforts he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week Monday.
McDonald’s award is the first of his career. He earned the laurel after helping William Penn defeat Graceland 28-16 last Thursday.
In the victory, the junior blocked not one, but two Yellowjacket kicks. The initial block was of a first-quarter punt, which set up the opening touchdown for the Statesmen on the next play from scrimmage.
Then McDonald knocked away an extra point attempt in the second quarter.
The award is the first for WPU this year.
