Hamed, West Sweep Weekly Heart Recognition

Oskaloosa–Youssef Hamed (Jr., Al Wakrah, Qatar, Business Management) and Xzavion West (Sr., Guthrie, Ky., Psychology) both excelled at two separate meets, and for their efforts they were named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week Monday, presented by WinWon Technologies.

Hamed won the Track award for the first time in his career, while West is now a six-time Field recipient, including five this year.

Hamed helped his 4×100-meter relay crew to fifth place at the Drake Relays in a school-record and provisional-qualifying standard time of 40.92 seconds.

The freshman also won the 100-meter dash at the Grand Viking Classic in a season-best time of 10.50 seconds.

West’s hammer throw of 198-1 at the Drake Relays was good for ninth overall. He also won the shot put at the Viking Classic at 52-0.5, while placing sixth in the discus (139-2).

Hamed and his 4×1 teammates now rank second in the Heart, while Hamed is fourth individually in the 100 and fifth in the 200-meter dash (21.53 seconds).

West currently tops all Heart throwers in both the hammer (203-11) and shot put (53-11.75), while being 11th in the discus (141-2).

WPU has now collected nine weekly awards this year.
