Palain Wins First Career Golfer of the Week Laurel

Oskaloosa–Mario Palain (Fr., Zaragoza, Spain, Business Management) carded three strong scores last week, and for his efforts he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week Monday.

The freshman collected his first career award after leading William Penn to a top-half finish at the Cumberlands Invitational last Monday and Tuesday.

At the event, Palain placed sixth out of 59 players with a three-round score of one-over 217 with scores of 70, 74, and 73. He tallied nine birdies against just 10 bogeys.

For the year, Palain owns a 73.5 stroke average over 15 rounds with 13 rounds in the 60s or 70s (low of 69). He has finished under par on three occasions, and has placed in the top 10 five times this year.

The honor is the first of the season for WPU.
