March 31, 2026
Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team split its Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) doubleheader against No. 9 Iowa Western Community College Tuesday afternoon at Pat Daugherty Field. The Warriors fell 5-4 in the opener before taking the nightcap 9-3.
With the split, the Warriors move to 20-9 overall on the year and 5-1 in ICCAC action to sit atop the league standings. The game two victory snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Reivers.
The Warriors fell behind early in game one as the Reivers erupted for five runs in the second frame to jump out to a quick start. Sophomore pitcher Maverick Scarpella (Thornton, CO/Broomfield) settled down to keep the Reivers in check.
Indian Hills got on the board in the third as Jose Lopez (Tas Tablas, Panama/Springfield Commonwealth) drove an RBI double to left. Gage Perri (Andrews, TX/TCS Post Grad) followed up with an RBI to cut the deficit to three.
Indian Hills threatened late in the ballgame as Lopez delivered a two-run single to center to pull the Warriors within one, but the Reivers prevailed for the victory.
Lopez finished the game 2-3 with three RBI. Scarpella struck out six in five innings of work, the freshman’s second consecutive start with at least six punchouts. Ethan Martin (Milton, Ontario/Craig Kielburger Secondary) and Dylan Raines (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) provided strong relief efforts, keeping the Reivers hitless over the final two innings.
The two sides traded runs in the second inning of game two to open the scoring. Indian Hills broke the game open in the third with four runs thanks to RBI knocks from Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth), Riku Kitagwa (Tokyo, Japan/Narashino), and Callum Donnelly (Bulli, Australia/New Mexico JC).
Donnelly added an RBI double in the fifth followed by an RBI single from Perri. The Reivers tacked on two runs in the seventh before the Warriors added a pair of insurance runs from Lopez and Perri in the home half of the seventh to complete the split.
Lopez added three more hits in the nightcap while Perri finished game two 3-5. Ramos and Donnelly each boasted multi-hit games for the Warriors.
Anton Keith (Boulder, CO/Fairview) picked up the win for the Warriors to move to 2-0 on the year. Dylan Eshuis (Haarlem, Netherlands/Jan Arentsz Alkmaar) and Connor Griess (Loveland, CO/Loveland) each posted scoreless relief efforts.
Donnelly has now reached base in all 27 games that he has appeared in on the year.
The Warriors are back in action this weekend at Kirkwood Community College for a three-game series. Action gets underway April 3.
