Overtime spoils game for Central women’s basketball team
PELLA -An overtime period gave the Buena Vista University women’s basketball team the extra time it needed to secure the win over Central College Saturday night.
Central (7-11, 2-7 American Rivers Conference) led by as much as 10 in the fourth quarter and had a game-winning shot near the end of regulation that was off the mark. Buena Vista (11-7, 5-4 conference) controlled the overtime with 14 points.
CeCe Moore (junior, Waterloo, West HS) led Central in scoring (15 points) and rebounds (eight). Maddie Backer had the second-highest totals in both categories with 12 points and six rebounds. McKenzie Snook (sophomore, Chariton) also reached double figures with 11 points.
Guards Emily Naughton (junior, Indianola) and Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Colo., Arvada West HS) had three steals apiece as Central generated 15 turnovers.
Central had a better free throw percentage than Buena Vista making 11 of 12 attempts. But the Beavers got to the line 16 more times but made just 18 of 28 attempts.
Central hosts Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
