Two Titles Won in WPU’s First Action After Break

Pella–The William Penn women’s indoor track and field team came up with numerous solid results across all disciplines as it competed in the Central Dutch Athletic Classic Friday.

Nine different Statesmen notched top-half performances with Adedoyin Aderibigbe (Fr., Cedar Hill, Texas, Sociology) and Crystal Shaw (Fr., Austin, Texas, Applied Computer Science) leading the way as both claimed victories.

Aderibigbe won the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.81 seconds, while Shaw topped the long jump field with a distance of 17-9.

Phoebe Burt (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa, Sociology) picked up a pair of silvers, doing so in the shot put at 38-7.75 and weight throw at 45-3.75.

Emmalee Wells-Stout (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) also walked off with the runner-up placing in the 400-meter dash (1:06.62), while Arabella Nepa (Fr., Clayton, Ga., New Media) took third in the high jump at 4-9.75.

Fourth-place efforts came from Akeelah Anderson (Fr., Dubuque, Iowa, Nursing) in the 60-meter hurdles (10.37 seconds in the finals, 10.22 in the prelims), Claire Rye (Fr., Plymouth, Iowa, Biology) in the one-mile run (5:52.05), and Isabella Fulks (So., Cypress, Texas, Nursing) in the weight throw (40-0.75).

Lilly Ostert (Jr., Madrid, Iowa, Exercise Science) headlined the squad’s 60-meter dash sprinters as she was seventh in 8.12 seconds. Shaw followed her teammate, ending up 10th in 8.24 seconds.

“Today was about just knocking the rust off and seeing where we were after a week back from a month-long break,” Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said. “This gave us a really good indication of what we have to work on heading into the bulk of the indoor season.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Iowa City next Friday and Saturday to compete in the Larry Wieczorek Invitational hosted by Iowa.
