Gordon Anderson, 86, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born May 9, 1939, in Mahaska County, the son of George and Mabel Blakeley Anderson. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1957. He continued his education at the University of Iowa and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business from Northeast Missouri State. On April 23, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Carr. To this union two daughters were born, Kimberly and Traci. Gordon started working in the insurance industry as a college student for State Farm Insurance. His career took he and his family all over the Midwest including Kirksville, Missouri, Columbia, Missouri and Bloomington Normal, Illinois. He left State Farm for a few years when he took a position in Pierre, South Dakota with a private company before returning to State Farm. The family moved to Oskaloosa where Gordon and Joanne built a business as a State Farm Insurance Agent, eventually being promoted to Agency Manager. Gordon and Joanne spent many happy years travelling and boating with family and friends at Rathbun and the Lake of the Ozarks. Joanne died on July 12, 1994. Gordon then married Lynda (Reece) Harter on August 19, 1996. Gordon and Lynda were married for 21 years until her passing on April 17, 2018. Following Lynda’s passing, Gordon enjoyed many trips and dinners with his longtime friend, Inez Grahek. Gordon was a lifetime member of Pheasants Forever and the NRA. He was a member of The Rotary Club and The Elks Lodge. He also enjoyed doing community service work as a member of the local Shriners Club. Gordon served as a board member for Forest Cemetery and was very proud of the upgrades that have been made to the cemetery. Gordon loved the outdoors; he followed extensive conservation practices on his farm providing shelter and food plots for all sorts of wildlife. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, traveling and boating. Gordon loved dogs and had 4 very special hunting dogs over the course of his life. He always looked forward to trips to his home at the Lake of the Ozarks and spending time on the lake with family and friends. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Green Bay Packers fan.

His family includes his two daughters, Kimberly (Kevin) Lowry of Oskaloosa and Traci Overbergen of Oskaloosa; a sister, Janet Fleck of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Jordan (Cortney) Lowry, Collin (Kaitlyn Bravek) Lowry, Nicole (Cale) Smith, and Sarah (Keenan) Davis; five great grandchildren, Mason Smith, Asher Smith, Jolie Lowry, Esme Davis, and Jones Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. As was Gordon’s wish his body has been cremated. Visitation will be on Monday, November 3, 2025, 11:00 a.m. until service time of 1:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church. Memorials may be made to Mahaska County Pheasants Forever or Stephen’s Memorial Animal Shelter.
