WARRIORS MAKE HISTORY AT REGION CHAMPIONSHIP

Fort Dodge, IA – The No. 14 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women’s Cross Country squad made history on Friday at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Championships, posting the program’s highest finish in school history. The Warriors finished as NJCAA Region 11 runners-up after a stellar performance.

The Warriors placed three individuals in the top-10 to post the program’s best all-around effort in postseason competition. Freshman Cindy Rose (Brown’s Town, Jamaica/Holmwood Technical) led the way for Indian Hills with a sixth-place showing while sophomore Tiffani Koonce (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) and freshman Rebecca Duran (El Paso, TX/Chapin) followed right behind in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

As a program, the Warriors tallied 59 team points as all five individuals who aided in the team scoring placed in the top 25 individuals. The 59 team points are a program-best while competing at the NJCAA Region 11 Championships.

Rose paced the Warriors with a team-best time of 19:03.3 while Koonce clocked in at 19:06.2. Duran earned a top-10 individual finish with a time of 19:11.6 for the Warriors.

Freshman Serene Thompson (Albia, IA/Albia) posted a personal-best performance with a time of 20:01.6 to place 14th overall for the Warriors. Fellow freshman Abby George (Albia, IA/Albia) capped the team scoring with a time of 21:11.7 to place 24th overall.

Freshman Claire Hayward (Eddyville, IA / Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont) crossed the finish line in 21:33.4 to place 27th overall while sophomore Shmyhia Morris (Memphis, TN//Whitehaven) placed 30th overall with a time of 21:57.1.

The Warriors’ historic effort saw Indian Hills place ahead of Iowa Central Community College who tallied 74 points. Iowa Western Community College took the NJCAA Region 11 Championship with 27 team points.

Indian Hills will now turn its attention to the upcoming NJCAA National Championship on November 8. This year’s event will also be held in Fort Dodge, IA at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.
