Smith Named NAIA SB’s Player of the Week
Oskaloosa–Laila Smith (So., Olympia, Wash., Elementary Education) was recognized nationally for her recent efforts as NAIA SB named her Player of the Week Tuesday.
Smith posted a .429 batting average (12-for-28) last week that included two doubles, three home runs, 15 RBIs, and eight runs scored. She owned an .821 slugging percentage, and along with four walks, she posted a .500 on-base mark.
The sophomore tallied six multi-hit games with four coming against Nelson (Ariz.) last Friday. After a slow start with no RBIs through her first three contests, Smith tallied at least two RBIs in each of her final five matchups (high of four twice). She scored in seven of her eight games, and got on base in all eight contests.
For the year, Smith is hitting .373 (28-for-75) with eight doubles, five home runs, 26 RBIs, and 14 runs scored. She has a .680 slugging percentage and a .427 on-base clip (7 walks).
