Oskaloosa Boys Wrestling Team Wins Thrilling Dual Against Pella

The Oskaloosa boys wrestling team secured a dramatic victory Thursday night in a Little Hawkeye Conference dual against Pella. The dual was a back-and-forth affair that came down to the final match, tied at 32 points each. In an intense finish, Parker Jordan clinched the win for Oskaloosa with a pin, bringing the team’s score to 38 and securing the victory.

Exciting Start for Osky

The dual got off to a strong start for Oskaloosa, with Kyron Smith winning by decision at 285 pounds, defeating Benjamin Dothager 8-4 to give Osky a 3-0 lead. However, Pella quickly answered with Carter Schroeder defeating Hunter Smith by decision at 113 pounds, and Xavier Tobin overpowering Carter Russell with a technical fall (19-3) at 120 pounds, putting the visitors ahead 5-3.

Osky’s Strong Middle Weights Lead the Way

At 126 pounds, Oskaloosa’s Ty Lorentzen turned things around, pinning Hudson Ritzert from Pella in 1:31 to take a 6-5 lead. The momentum continued for Osky with Kaiden Parker earning a technical fall victory at 138 pounds, defeating Colby Putz 21-6 in 3:55. Reid Luck followed suit, pinning JT Pollock of Pella in 2:45 at 144 pounds, and Colton Shaffer won by fall in 1:05 over Rex Rhamy at 150 pounds, further extending Oskaloosa’s lead.

Pella Fights Back

Despite Oskaloosa’s strong performance in the middle weights, Pella mounted a comeback in the upper weights. Davion Lampkin pinned Oskaloosa’s Trevin Griffin at 157 pounds in 3:31, and Matthew Phillips defeated Ty Van Vliet with a fall at 165 pounds in 4:36. Pella then took the lead with wins from Hunter Smith (fall in 2:39 at 175 pounds) and Logan Bruxvoort (fall in 0:42 at 190 pounds), putting the score at 32-32.

Parker Jordan Seals the Win

With the dual tied at 32, the outcome rested on the final match at 215 pounds. Parker Jordan delivered for Oskaloosa, pinning Pella’s Brecken Ritzert in 1:54 to clinch the win and secure a 38-32 victory for the Indians.

Extra Matches Provide Additional Wins

Oskaloosa also dominated in several extra matches, with Ivan Montgomery pinning Jaxson Pace in 45 seconds, Carter Jordan winning by fall in 3:50 over Kanten Lyle, and Montgomery earning another pin over Brayden Van Horn in 5:12. However, Pella won a few of the extra matches, including Aidan Kruempel pinning Carter Jordan, and Emery Terlouw pinning Chad McDonald-Playle in the 175-pound extra match.

The victory boosts Oskaloosa’s momentum as they head into the weekend. The boys team will travel to Pella on Saturday for the Bill VanHorne Invitational, while the girls team will compete in Chariton. With a thrilling win over Pella under their belt, the Indians are poised for continued success as the season progresses.
