Grinnell Football Falls to Monmouth in Tough 49-7 Loss
The Grinnell College football team faced a tough defeat on October 12, 2024, at Rosenbloom Field, losing 49-7 to Monmouth College in Midwest Conference play. Monmouth dominated from the start, building a 35-7 lead by halftime and maintaining control throughout the game.
Monmouth’s quarterback Brayden Deem led the way with six touchdown passes, including four to wide receiver Nate Thornton, who finished with 156 receiving yards. Monmouth’s offense was efficient, racking up 442 total yards, including 289 through the air.
Grinnell’s lone score came in the second quarter when quarterback Henry Baird connected with Garrett Wilson on a 6-yard touchdown pass, capping a 67-yard drive. Wilson led the Pioneers with 41 receiving yards on five catches, while Marcus Sung paced the ground attack with 47 rushing yards.
Defensively, Hugh Werner led Grinnell with eight total tackles, while Peyton Williams added three tackles for loss. Despite their efforts, Grinnell’s defense couldn’t slow down Monmouth’s high-powered offense, which capitalized on several big plays.
Grinnell drops to 1-4 on the season, while Monmouth improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
