Hays announces conversations with the residents of her district
Hays upcoming events 2024.
Iowa House District 88, which I represent, includes most of Mahaska County, all of Keokuk County and the northern townships of Jefferson County.
These meet and greet events provide the opportunity for you and I to have open dialogue; a place for me to share my vision for our district while listening to your feedback, questions, and suggestions.
Having conversations with the residents of my district is part of my vision to be an accessible and engaged representative to you.
On that note, I want to revisit this very important truth…
the United States is a constitutional republic
Constitutional:
We operate under the foundational document, the U.S. Constitution, which outlines the structure of our government, delineates the powers and limits of its branches, and protects individual rights and freedoms. It serves as the supreme law of the land. The Constitution also includes the Bill of Rights, which guarantees fundamental freedoms and rights such as freedom of speech, religion, and the press. These protections are integral to our republic and ensure that the government cannot infringe upon individual liberties.
Republic:
As a republic, we elect representatives to make decisions on our behalf. Rather than having a direct democracy where everyone votes on every issue, we choose elected officials who are tasked with crafting and implementing laws.
I am excited to continue working together in support of our constitutional republic!
