Oskaloosa Boys Tennis Faces Stiff Competition at District Meet

FAIRFIELD, IA—The Oskaloosa boys’ tennis team encountered formidable opponents at yesterday’s district tennis meet in Fairfield, resulting in a day of intense matches and learning experiences for the young athletes.

Coach Tony Witt described the weather as “perfect” but noted that the draws were not as favorable for his team. “Unfortunately, the kids got some bad draws for their first-round matches,” Witt said, detailing the challenges his players faced against the top-seeded teams.

In doubles action, Oskaloosa’s Mason Muir and Holden Braundmeir squared off against the number one-seeded team from Cedar Rapids Xavier, succumbing to a tough 6-0, 6-0 defeat. Similarly, teammates Ethan Stek and Aiden Scholes faced another daunting pair from Cedar Rapids Xavier, also losing 6-0, 6-0. Despite the initial setbacks, Stek and Scholes showed remarkable resilience and skill, managing to qualify for the state championships.

On the singles court, Cooper Rupprecht fought hard in a tightly contested match but fell 6-4, 6-2. Meanwhile, Cam Cassens was a highlight for Oskaloosa, winning a grueling two-hour marathon match 7-5, 7-6(7-4) against a challenging opponent. Witt praised Cassens for his performance, saying, “Cam really played well in the match and came through in the big moments to close out the match in two close sets.” However, Cassens’ run ended when he faced the top seed from Cedar Rapids Xavier, losing 6-0, 6-0 in the following round.
