Sharon Griffiths, 73, of Oskaloosa passed away at her home on January 8, 2023. She was born November 25, 1950, the daughter of Kenneth and Gladys (Pickerel) Elmore.

She graduated from Pekin High School with the class of 1969. She then went on to Burlington Nursing School and earned her ADN in 1972.

She was married to William Griffiths. To this union, a son John was born. William and Sharon later divorced.

Sharon devoted over 40 years of her life to nursing. She worked at Ottumwa Regional and St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa. She retired from nursing in 2009 due to health concerns.

Outside of her professional life, she found joy in various activities. She enjoyed collecting bears, doing needlework, working in the yard, and tending to her garden. Above all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, John (fiancée Tanya Baker) Griffiths of Oskaloosa, grandsons, Mason Griffiths and Jacob Baker, a granddaughter and her husband, Mikaela (Zach) Abbott, and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Messer Abbott, two brothers, Lyle (Sharon) Elmore of Hedrick, and Phil Elmore of Maxwell, two sisters, Carole Longaker of Pleasant Hill and Carla (Donald) McKay of Packwood, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, David Elmore.

As was her wish, Sharon’s body has been cremated. A private family celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
