Carmen Lee Pace, age 85, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the MHP Serenity Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 1, 1938, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Rex and Bernice “Bun” (Weston) Pace.
He graduated from the Massena High School and later attended Junior College for 2 years.
On December 31, 1961, he was united in marriage to Audrey Reimers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Carmen worked as a Health Insurance Salesman for Penn Life and Reserve National for most of his working life.
He was an avid golfer and had a total of 9 hole-in-ones, an accomplishment he was very proud of. In his younger years, he had his own radio time slot in Atlantic, “The Carmen Pace Hour”, where he would sing and play his guitar. He was said to have a voice similar to Nat King Cole and Elvis Presley. He enjoyed dancing, fishing and had a special love for his cars, especially Cadillacs. He also loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Audrey Pace of Oskaloosa; his children, Tracy (Jerry) Vanderhorst of West Bend, Iowa, Brett (Amy) Pace of Keystone, Iowa and Tari (Stan) Van Wyk of Pella; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a sister, Marvel (Craig) Koski of Atlantic, 1 niece and 1 nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Tony Pace.
As was his wish, Carmen’s body will be cremated and there are no services planned at this time. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The family request that in lieu of flowers any memorials may be directed to the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa.
