Central places 27 on conference winter academic list
PELLA – Central College landed 20 student-athletes on the winter sports American Rivers Conference all-academic team, announced Thursday.
Across the league, 276 total student-athletes were honored.
The men’s basketball team had three recipients honored for the third time: Kaleb Brand (junior, Mount Vernon), Nolan Brand (junior, Mount Vernon) and Kole Tupa (junior, Center Point, Center Point-Urbana HS). Senior wrestler Gage Linahon (senior, Newton) was also recognized for the third time.
Six other Central student-athletes were honored for the second time: women’s basketball player Hannah Dau (junior, Paulina, South O’Brien HS), men’s wrestlers Cael Cox (junior, Ankeny), Jason Hermann (junior, Stockton, Ill.) and Landon Kirby (junior, Grinnell), and dancers Alysha Coyle (senior, Ames) and Tessa Huff (senior, Ames).
To qualify for the distinction, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with one year at his/her current school, achieve a 3.5 GPA or better and compete at the varsity level.
