Statesmen of the Week: Anthony Weaver and Ashley Lekas

Oskaloosa–Men’s track and field athlete Anthony Weaver (Fr., Demopolis, Ala., Mechanical Engineering) and women’s wrestler Ashley Lekas (So., Plano, Texas, Business Management) have been named Statesmen of the Week for the week of January 15-21, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Weaver was a two-time event champion last Saturday at the St. Ambrose Bumble Rumble. The freshman was first out of three individuals in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.72 seconds. He also topped the seven-person triple jump field with a distance of 44-8.25.

In her only match of the week, Lekas upset the #1 wrestler in the nation, Abby McIntyre of Grand View. The unranked sophomore dominated from the start last Wednesday, winning by a 10-0 technical fall.
