Statesmen Back on Lanes at ISYL Leatherneck Classic

Gabi Evans (Sr., West Liberty, Iowa, Psychology and Sociology) placed in the top 15 as the William Penn women’s bowling team battled at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic last Saturday and Sunday.
WPU placed 16th out of 33 teams with 6,956 pins. Mount Mercy was the best qualifying squad with 7,727 pins and reached the finals of the match play competition, but was upset in the championship by #6 seed Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.), 2-1.
Rachel Moore of Culver-Stockton (Mo.) topped the 270-player field with 1,084 pins in five games (216.8 average).
Evans was WPU’s best roller with a 196.8 clip in five games to take 13th overall; the senior had two games over 200.
Cydnee Whiteleather (Sr., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Elementary Education) also started all five games with a 177.0 pin average.
The duo of Sammantha Meyers (Jr., Rockford, Ill., Elementary Education), at 179.8, and Christy Mottier (Sr., Madison, Wis., Business Management), at 163.3, both played in four rounds, while Caitlin Radliff (Jr., Belleville, Ill., Software Engineering) averaged 154.0 in three games.
Madison Ross (Sr., Charles City, Iowa, Exercise Science) (148.0) and Kelcey Aczon (So., Las Vegas, Nev., Nursing) (137.5) wrapped up the varsity scoring.
The Statesmen reserve team competed in the Classic as well and placed fifth in the JV standings with 6,848 pins. Olivia Pilcher (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Exercise Science) guided those efforts with a 175.8 average.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Joliet, Ill. Saturday and Sunday to compete in the NAIA Invitational.
