George Collects Second-Team Academic All-America Honor
Oskaloosa–Nick George (Jr., Sarnia, Ontario, Sociology) was lauded as one of the top scholar-athletes in the NAIA as the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America baseball teams were announced earlier this week.
George, who earned his award as a designated hitter for William Penn, was one of 10 individuals named to the NAIA’s Second Team. An additional 12 baseball players were chosen for the First Team. George owned a 3.72 Grade Point Average entering the spring semester.
George is the second Academic All-American in Statesmen baseball history, joining Tanner Bedier (First Team) who collected his accolade during the 2022 campaign.
The prestigious award from CSC (formally College Sports Information Directors of America) recognizes athletes for their performances on the field and in the classroom.
The junior hit .438 (64-for-146) this year with 13 doubles, one triple, and two home runs. He tallied 43 RBIs and 39 runs scored, while also drawing 25 walks and being hit by 11 pitches. Not included in his nominating material but worth mentioning, George also pitched in 13 games (12 starts), going 3-6 with a 4.53 Earned Run Average in 57 2/3 innings.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must own a 3.50 GPA, be a starter or important reserve player, attend the nominating institution for at least one year, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
