Consistent Play Leads WPU to 14th at Regular Season-Ending Hoosier Classic
Indianapolis, Ind.–The Statesmen women’s bowling team produced at a high level yet again as it concluded the regular season at the Hoosier Classic last Saturday and Sunday.
WPU hit 8,551 pins to finish 14th out of 65 teams at the Tier 1 event, which consisted of six regular games and 15 Baker games. Wichita State (Kan.) led qualifying with 9,318 pins and finished the weekend sweep with the match play crown as well.
Bailey Delrose of St. Francis (Ill.) was the best individual bowler (409 total) with a 237.7 average (1,426 pins).
Paced by a career-high 286 (third highest in school history, highest this season), Gabi Evans (Sr., West Liberty, Iowa, Psychology and Sociology) led William Penn by finishing 26th overall with a 207.2 pin average. She managed four games over 200.
Caitlin Radliff (So., Belleville, Ill., Software Engineering) was also in the 200s for much of Saturday (five total games), as she averaged 204.7 pins in individual competition.
Madison Ross (Sr., Charles City, Iowa, Exercise Science) started all six games as well and owned an average of 203.7 pins.
Christy Mottier (Sr., Madison, Wis., Business Management) was next with a 181.3 mark in four rounds, while Alexis Lake (Sr., Kaysville, Utah, Nursing), at 187.0, and Cydnee Whiteleather (Jr., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Elementary Education), at 177.3, each started three games.
Toni Hansen (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, Biology) averaged 169.0 pins in two starts.
“The ladies ended the regular season on a good note,” Head Coach Kirstin Foster said. “They bowled very well on Saturday and met a challenging pattern on Sunday. We have been working on being more mentally prepared for tougher conditions and it showed as they handled the adversity well this weekend. We will take these positives into this week as we prepare for conference.”
