Statesmen of the Week: Russell Malterud and Olivia Pilcher

Oskaloosa–Shotgun sports athlete Russell Malterud (Grad., North Branch, Minn., Master’s of Organizational Leadership) and women’s bowler Olivia Pilcher (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Exercise Science) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of October 10-16, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Malterud placed second overall at the William Penn Invitational last Saturday and Sunday. He was just seven shots away from the High Overall Athlete crown, finishing 459-for-500 overall. His weekend was highlighted with a 99-for-100 outing in Trap, while also going at or above 90 in Skeet (92-for-100) and Double Skeet (90-for-100). The graduate student also went 89-for-100 in Sporting Clays and Super Sporting.

Malterud helped William Penn to the team title, it’s fourth of the fall.

In her collegiate debut, Pilcher placed 25th out of 204 competitors at the Mid-States Championship last Saturday, averaging 180.8 per game. She had a high game of 211 and was below 160 just once. She helped the Statesmen to an eighth-place finish in qualifying and an appearance in the match play semifinals.
