Statesmen Take Third at Spring-Opening TPC Deere Run Invitational

Silvis, Ill. — The William Penn women’s golf team hosted the annual TPC Deere Run Invitational, which is held at TPC Deere Run Golf Course, the same site as the PGA’s John Deere Classic. The tournament featured 13 teams, including four Heart of America Athletic Conference programs. Indiana Wesleyan took home the crown with a two-day score of 616 (+40). Helping her team to victory was tournament medalist Caroline Gibson who totaled 146 (+2) over the two-day event.

Leading the charge for the Statesmen was Sam Maceli (Fr., Pittsburg, Kan., Exercise Science) who finished in solo second place with a two-day total of 155 (75-80) and earned all-tournament honors. In addition, Olivia Lange (Fr., Porta Westfalcia, Germany, Business Management) also received all-tournament honors as she finished at 158 (77-81). Following behind Maceli and Lange, Bailee Frayne (Sr., Garner, Iowa, Elementary Education) also broke into the top-20 with a score of 168 (86-82).

Rounding out the varsity squad was Carlee Frayne (So., Garner, Iowa, Sport Management) and Courtney Jackson (Jr., Liberty Lake, Wash., Digital Communication) who finished at 170 (85-85) and 180 (87-93), respectively.

“It is an amazing opportunity to have the honor to host at the beautiful TPC Deere Run,” said Head Coach Bailey Rimes. “For our first tournament out this year we saw a lot of great things to build from, on and off the course. On the varsity squad we had two all-tournament players, our varsity reserve finished in ahead of six varsity squads, showing massive improvement from the fall. This wasn’t our best tournament, but it was a good starting point. Our job now is to build off of this momentum, make adjustments, and prepare to peak at the right time.”

Next Event: The Statesmen will host the Navy and Gold Classic next Monday and Tuesday at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa.
