Trio Selected for All-Heart Laurels
Oskaloosa–Three members of the William Penn women’s basketball team closed out their 2021-2022 campaigns with hardware as the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams were announced Thursday.
Zantasia White (Jr., Lubbock, Texas, Secondary Education), Ally Stewart (Jr., Victoria, Australia, Physical Education), and Morgan Terry (Jr., Cornersville, Tenn., Biology) were all chosen as part of the 27-member honorable-mention squad. An addition 10 players earned first-team laurels, while 11 individuals collected second-team recognition.
The honors are the first for all three student-athletes. The trio was part of a WPU squad that finished 5-25 (5-14 Heart).
White averaged 11.6 points and 4.4 points this year, while also recording 53 assists, 42 steals, and one block. The junior shot 34.6% from the field (35.1% 3-PT) and 78.6% from the free-throw line.
She tallied a season-high 25 points against Peru State on January 26, while her season-best 11 rebounds came versus Haskell on November 27.
Stewart concluded her season with an average of 10.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, while also producing 34 steals, 23 assists, and six blocks. She hit 35.4% of her field goals (34.8% 3-PT) and 61.9% of her free throws.
The junior scored a season-best 23 points versus Park on February 9, making seven trifectas in that outing.
Terry averaged 9.5 points along with 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest, while also posting 17 blocks and 12 steals. The junior owned a 50.2% field-goal clip and a 74.6% mark from the perimeter.
Terry’s season-best 30 points came versus Peru State on January 26.
Arleighshya McElroy of Central Methodist was named the Heart Player and Newcomer of the Year. Ana Arroyo of Missouri Valley earned Defensive Player of the Year, while Giavanna Moore of MVC claimed the Freshman of the Year laurel. Courtney Boyd of Clarke was tabbed as Coach of the Year by her peers, while Adam Hocking (Clarke) and Andi Connelly (Benedictine) shared Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
