Statesmen Rated Fourth in Preseason Ranking
Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s lacrosse team is considered to be a major player this spring as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference released its preseason coaches’ poll last Friday.
William Penn, which was 9-8 last year (6-4 KCAC), holds the fourth spot in the 11-team rating with 76 points.
Defending regular season and tournament champion Columbia holds a narrow lead at the top with 94 points and five first-place votes.
St. Ambrose, which also has garnered five first-place nods, is second with 89 points, while Benedictine is third with 80 points and the final first-place vote.
Ottawa rounds out the top five with 68 points, while Missouri Baptist (68), Midland (43), Clarke (31), Missouri Valley (28), and Saint Mary (Kan.) (26) conclude the top 10. Morningside and its 14 points wrap up the poll.
William Penn opens its season on February 12, hosting Cornell in a neutral-site non-conference game in West Des Moines at 1 p.m.
