NM Boys No. 8 in Poll

DES MOINES – North Mahaska’s boys basketball team was one of three Class 1A teams to enter the Associated Press Top 10 this week. They had received votes in previous polls. The rankings were released prior to North Mahaska’s first loss of the season at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Monday, 81-61.

The loss was the first of the season for the Warhawks, who now sit at 7-1 and 6-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League. Montezuma, the defending state champion in Class 1A, dropped out of the top 10 but received votes. North Mahaska had given Montezuma’s first loss on Dec. 14, 50-34. The Braves lost their second game of the season Saturday at Williamsburg.

North Linn holds the top spot at 8-0 followed by Grand View Christian at 8-0.
North Mahaska will end the pre-Christmas season with a game at English Valleys Tuesday, Dec. 21. They will hit the road for a pair of South Iowa Cedar League contests Jan. 4 at Iowa Valley and Jan. 7 at Belle Plaine before returning home for a match with Keota.
