WPU Falls 3-0 to Culver-Stockton
Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s soccer team struggled on a rainy, cold night at Drost Field as it lost 3-0 to Culver-Stockton in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Wednesday.
William Penn (5-11, 3-8 Heart) was outshot 19-8 by the Wildcats (12-4-1, 7-3-1 Heart), including a 12-2 deficit in shots on goal.
The first 23 minutes of action did not witness a goal, but then the visitors tacked on a pair of scores in a span of less than five minutes. The tallies ignited the navy and gold to a point as they went from without a shot to having five by the end of the period. Unfortunately, none of those attempts found the netting.
C-SC added its final goal in the 76th minute, but again WPU could not find an answer. Kaitlin Falaney (Jr., Ottawa, Ill., Sports Management) and Emma George (Fr., Prairie City, Iowa, Education) topped the hosts with two shots each.
The defense was paced by goalkeeper Katja Bierman (So., Alkmaar, The Netherlands, Digital Communication) who had five saves. Madeline Danielson (Fr., La Crescent, Minn., Exercise Science) relieved her early in the second half and posted three saves.
Next Up: William Penn, which will not qualify for the Heart Tournament, concludes its season in Oskaloosa Saturday by hosting Evangel in Heart action at noon.
