WPU Drops 4-0 Outing with Wildcats

Baldwin City, Kan.–The Statesmen women’s soccer team was unable to tally a signature victory in its last road trip of the year as it fell 4-0 to Baker in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Saturday.

William Penn (5-10, 3-7 Heart), which closes out its season with back-to-back home contests next week, was outshot 25-6 and failed to get on the scoreboard.

The visitors were unfortunately put on their heels right away, permitting a goal in the seventh minute. The Wildcats (9-5-1, 5-4-1 Heart) then doubled their advantage in the 15th minute, while Taylor Witthauer (So., Vancouver, Wash., Nursing) produced WPU’s first scoring chance with a shot that was saved in the 22nd minute.

BU added its third and final goal of the opening half in the 25th minute. Witthauer came up with another shot and fired off a corner kick a few minutes later, while Iris Navarro (Jr., Ontario, Calif., Biology) got into the mix late with a saved try late in the period.

The evening’s goal-scoring wrapped up just a few seconds after intermission, while Navarro managed one saved shot two minutes down the road. Sydney Estrada (Sr., Glendora, Calif., Biology) put a pair of attempts high over the goal to conclude WPU’s offensive contributions to the matchup.

Katja Bierman (So., Alkmaar, The Netherlands, Digital Communication) finished with eight saves, while Madeline Danielson (Fr., La Crescent, Minn., Exercise Science) also stopped one shot in relief of Bierman.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa next Wednesday to host Culver-Stockton in Heart play at 5 p.m.
