Gary Walter, 67 formerly of Deep River, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, July 12, 2020 at the Montezuma Specialty Care in Montezuma. Gary Lee Walter was born on October 17th 1952 to Robert and Delores (Duncan) Walter.
Gary grew up on a farm outside of Guernsey Ia and attended BGM schools in Brooklyn IA until his junior year. Gary decided in 2008 to attend Iowa Valley Continuing Education to get his GED. He was the oldest recipient to receive the GED in IVCE history.
He drove truck for 30+ years and had multiple construction jobs throughout the years.
Gary loved to play cards, fish, hunt and was an avid NASCAR fan which lead him to name his rescue dog after his favorite driver, Rusty Wallace. Most of all, Gary loved to spend time with his daughter and granddaughters.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carrie Jo (& Doug) Barnes of Montezuma; his granddaughters, Jenna (& Trenton Witt) Walter of Oskaloosa, Natosha Walter and Brianna Foubert of Montezuma; his brothers, Ben (& Diane) Walter of Ballwin, Mo and William (& Barb) Walter of New Sharon; a sister, Linda (& Art) Kuntz of Brooklyn; four nieces; two nephews; five great nephews; six great nieces; an Aunt, Erma Smith of Marshalltown; an Uncle, Gerald Duncan of Grinnell along with several friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and multiple aunts and uncles.
As was Gary’s wish, his body was cremated and no services are planned.
A private burial will be held in the Guernsey Cemetery near Guernsey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may go to his daughter to be put towards his granddaughter’s education and may be sent to P.O. Box 103 Montezuma IA 50171.
