Michael “Turk” Lee Rempe, 61, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, October 25, 2020, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born on February 7, 1959, in Oskaloosa, the son of Max W. and Donna P. Busby Rempe.

Mike graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1977.

On September 19, 1981, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Boomershine at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.

Mike loved the land, he worked for various agriculture companies including, Pierson Seed, Kelderman Lime, and Brummel Brothers. On March 3, 1981, he left the Ag world and went to work at Rolscreen (now Pella Corporation) in Pella. He held various positions there, but his favorite was clipping veneer, which he did for over 30 years. He retired from Pella Corporation after 36 years. However, he cherished the friendships he had with co-workers even after his retirement.

Mike was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa and Ducks Unlimited. He looked forward to camping at the Iowa State Fair every year, a family tradition that started when he was three years old. Mike enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises and was usually the “cruise director”, he also enjoyed taking pictures.

His family includes his wife of over 39 years, JoAnne Rempe of Oskaloosa; two daughters and their husbands: Kelcey and Edward Fynaardt of rural Rose Hill and Kara and Rod Reisdorph of Sioux City; four grandchildren: Ayden and Karson Fynaardt and Rodney and Riot Reisdorph; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Marilyn Boomershine; sisters-in-law: Julie Boomershine and Joy (& Earl Robinson) Wills; and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rebecca Clark; and an aunt and uncle, Keith and Gail.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 1:30 PM in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The funeral service will be live streamed at the funeral home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Iowa Alzheimer’s Association.
