Sheryl Liehr, 71, of Olathe Kansas formerly of Des Moines and Oskaloosa, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Advent Health in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Sheryl was born Wednesday, July 6, 1949 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Donald Wilson and Jennie Louise (Otto) Parks.

Sheryl graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1967. Following High School Sheryl moved to Des Moines and went to Business School for 2 years.

After Business School Sheryl worked at Ruan for a short time then went on to work at Farmers Mutual Hail in Des Moines for 25 years. She stayed in Des Moines after her retirement eventually moving to Olathe, Kansas.

Sheryl was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan. In her youth she was an avid bowler and golfer. She was a baseball purist and especially loved watching when her son was playing. She loved her pets and all animals.

Her family includes her son, Jamie and his wife Kimberly of Olathe, Kansas; and one grandson, Jackson McLain Liehr; three brothers: Richard (& Dorothy) Parks of California, Roger (& Dixie) Parks of Oskaloosa and Don (& Judy) Parks of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Robert Parks.

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 30, 2020, at 12:00 noon in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn, Iowa with Pastor Joyce Proctor officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The funeral service will be live streamed at the funeral home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance.
Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until time to leave for the service at 11:15 a.m. Friday.
