Statesmen Taken Down by Jimmies in Straight Sets

Jamestown, N.D.—William Penn played Jamestown for the second time in a week as they played them on the road this time around after falling in straight sets as part of the quadrangular last weekend.

Unfortunately, the Statesmen (2-7) faced the same fate as they were shutout by the Jimmies (6-1) by the scores of 25-21, 25-15, and 25-13.

The navy and gold were outhit by the home squad -.015-.338.

Ike Papes (Fr., Elwood, Ill., Sports Management) was the only hitter to break into double-figures as he had 10 kills. The freshman added three block assists and an ace as well. Matt Helmick (Fr., Fullerton, Calif., Business Management) posted a team-high seven assists and four digs in the outing.

Defensively, CJ Rettig (Fr., Sierra Madre, Calif., Wellness and Recreation) and Carlos Garcia (Fr., Laredo, Texas, Biology) each had six digs to lead the Statesmen.

Next Up: William Penn will have a quick turnaround as they will take on Briar Cliff on Saturday in Sioux City.
