Marilyn Behrens, 73, of Newton and formerly of Eddyville, passed away, Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She was born December 10, 1946, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Andrew and Eva (Mulenburg) Den Hartog.

Marilyn attended Willman High School and graduated with the class of 1965.

Following high school Marilyn was united in marriage to Gary Cavin. They moved to Washington and she began working at the Washington Café. Marilyn and Gary later divorced. On June 12, 1971, she was united in marriage to Tom Behrens in Albia.

Marilyn moved to Eddyville and began working at Donna’s Café in Oskaloosa. She also held jobs at the Coffee Cup, Maid Rite, Bonanza, Hy-Vee, McDonalds and Pizza Ranch.

Marilyn enjoyed watching her son-in-law at the races and crocheting different things for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing BINGO, watching NASCAR, collecting dolphins, camping and talking on her C.B. Radio as Blondie. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends.

Marilyn is survived by her children: Terri Pierce of Utah, Michelle (& Floyd) Montgomery of Newton, and Heather (& Tim) McKee of Fremont; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a sister, Diana (& Gary) Rust of Eddyville; a niece; 2 nephews; and 5 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Behrens; her parents, Andrew and Eva Den Hartog; and a grandson.

As was Marilyn’s wish, her body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Family will be present on Friday, December 20, from 4 – 6 PM to greet friends and relatives. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
