Statesmen Swept by #7 Northwestern
Orange City, Iowa–William Penn hit the road for a non-conference matchup with one of the nation’s best in #7 Northwestern.
The Statesmen (3-2) were coming off a solid opening weekend going 3-1 in the KCAC Fall Fling, but were halted by the Red Raiders (4-0) in straight sets (25-14, 25-11, 25-16).
WPU had a tough time defending a high-powered offensive attack from the Red Raiders as they were outhit .488-.092. Libby Zorn (Jr., Billings, Mont.) had a team-high six kills for the navy and gold while setter Annalise Whitcomb (Jr., Humboldt, Kan.) managed 14 assists.
On the defensive side, the duo of Cameryn Campbell (Jr., Jefferson City, Mo.) and Rebekah Eaves (Jr., Farmington, N.M.) each tallied five digs to lead the squad.
Next Up: William Penn will return home and host the first annual Wendy’s Classic this upcoming weekend beginning on Saturday, August 31 and concluding Sunday, September 1. The ladies will begin play on Saturday with a matchup against Dakota Wesleyan at 12 p.m.
