Sharon Lee Vera, age 67, of Oskaloosa died Monday, July 8, 2019, at Unity Point (Methodist) Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Sharon was born Tuesday, September 4, 1951, in Chino, California, the daughter of Floyd and Peggy Hargrove Gibson.

Sharon graduated from the Chino High School with the class of 1969. Following high school Sharon worked for Sunkist in California for many years.

On March 30, 1979, Sharon married Frank Vera in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following their marriage, they made their home in Oskaloosa.

Sharon worked various places in Oskaloosa. She also took computer classes at Indian Hills as technology became more prevalent at the places she worked. In 2018, she retired from MAHAKSA after many years of service.

Sharon enjoyed collecting glassware and antiques. She enjoyed going with her daughter Kelli to auctions, sales and flea markets. She was an avid reader, loved her pets, especially her dog Gina. She also enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles. She delighted in spending time with her family.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Frank Vera of Oskaloosa; daughter, Kelli (& Scott) Shrader of Oskaloosa; 2 grandchildren: Austin (& Kelsie Thomlin) Shrader and Mason (& Cheyenne Jaquez) Shrader.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
As was Sharon’s wish, her body will be cremated following the service.
Burial of her urn will be at a later date in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present Monday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Stephen’s Memorial Animal Shelter.
