Five Linksters Collect Academic Recognition

Oskaloosa–Five members of the Statesmen women’s golf team were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2018-2019 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes recently.
Alexis Guimaraes (Jr., San Ramon, Calif., Psychology) guided the quintet with a 4.00 Grade Point Average. Helene Larsen (Sr., Viborg, Denmark, Business Management) was next with a 3.94 GPA, while Deanna Peiffer (Jr., Washington, Iowa, Public Accounting), at 3.80, Megan Rhoads (Sr., Schertz, Texas, Psychology), at 3.73, and Elise Warne (Sr., Melbourne, Australia, Exercise Science), at 3.58, were also honored.
The award is the second for the trio of Larsen, Rhoads, and Warne, while Guimaraes and Peiffer are both first-time recipients. A total of 182 women’s golfers from within the NAIA were awarded the laurel.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least junior academic standing, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
