Pella Too Much For Indians

Oskaloosa Indians

by Coach Jodi Steinlage

On a very rainy and cold night, the girls’ soccer team went up against the #2 ranked Pella Dutch. The girls played a very gutsy game and held the Dutch to a 1-0 advantage well past the half way mark of the 1st half. An unfortunate call in the box that resulted in a Penally Kick for Pella would bring it 2-0 and unfortunately give a bit of spark to them. The girls would eventually be down 5-0 at half.

“We were really proud of how the girls came out and battled with one of the top teams in the state. They didn’t back down and were doing everything they needed to do to keep a very strong Pella offense of the board. However, a call that didn’t go our way was the spark Pella needed as far as getting their offense going. The next 3 goals were all mistakes we made that they made us pay for. The score didn’t reflect the playing the girls were doing.”

The 2nd half would find the Indians still battling hard and not giving up. There would be some chances for the girls on offense, but the Indians were unable to get a really good shot off. Defensively, the girls kept battling and kept the Dutch to only 2 goals in the 2nd half until the last 30 seconds when a corner kick would sneak in near post for a final score of 8-0 in favor of Pella.

“The score isn’t a reflection of how hard the girls worked. Pella is a really good team and a few of our mistakes led to them capitalizing on those mistakes. As coaches, we were really proud how the girls didn’t roll over and just give up. They kept fighting to the end and it is something we can be proud of.”

The girls will look to get back on the winning track with Senior night tomorrow night against Fairfield. The Varsity will play first with Senior recognition after and JV to follow. Start time is 5:30. We would love to see everyone out for one of our last regular season home games.
