Farmers Market A Bit Different For 2019
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Farmers Market is one of those things that make most everyone think of fresh sweet corn and butternut squash in the oven. This year, Farmers Market could also mean that you got a unique set of earrings to go with that.
Reg Randau, President of the Oskaloosa Farmers Market, now known as the Oskaloosa Vendor and Farmers Market, will be moving from their past location on the square to the parking lot between Kentucky Fried Chicken and the Urban Park, or Skate Park as it’s sometimes known.
The move to that location will allow those traveling along A Avenue to see the vendors, making the market more accessible to those passing by.
It also keeps from having to close down a road in order to host the market. This will help protect the vendors and patrons from the occasional hazard of a driver being confused and driving through the market.
Beyond the new location, the market will be expanding from what was basically food farmers market to home-based businesses, local vendors, and artisans. “We’re trying to add entertainment,” said Randau of the opportunity for local music talent to join in the fun.
For those vendors unsure if the market is for them, a voucher system will be in place that will give those vendors two opportunities to try it out at no cost.
The single day cost for a vendor is now just five dollars from the previous fee of ten dollars. There are vendor packages available for those interested in participating more often.
The first Oskaloosa Vendor and Farmers Market will be held on Tuesday, May 21st from 4-6 pm. Saturday hours will be from 8 to 11 am, and Tuesday will be 4 to 6 pm. These days and times are the same as they were in past years.
On those days that it’s raining, you will be able to find the market inside of Penn Central Mall.
If you are looking for more information, or want to reach the organizers to become a vendor or inquire about the cost, you can find them on Facebook at Oskaloosa Vendor and Farmers Market.
