Don Simpson, 71 of Montezuma, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at his home in Montezuma. Donald “Don” Wayne Simpson, the son of Mark and Lela (Speas) Simpson was born near Montezuma on February 23, 1947. He was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work.

Don graduated from Montezuma High School in 1965.

On August 12, 1977, Don was united in marriage to Ginny Dingeman and together they raised four daughters, Deborah, Dawnetta, Darla and Deeadra.

Don spent his life behind the wheel of a semi. He owned his own semi and then drove truck for Monte Manufacturing for over fourteen years, retiring in 1996 due to health reasons.

Don enjoyed traveling and seeing his siblings, collecting NASCAR memorabilia, toy farm tractors, toy semi’s and souvenir spoons of places he had visited. He also enjoyed woodworking, staying connected with his daughters through his I-pad, and was meticulous with his yard work. He was a big NASCAR fan. Don was so proud of his family and spent as much time as possible with his grandchildren.

His memory is honored by his daughters: Deborah “Deb” (& David) Brothersen of Davenport, Dawnetta (& Greg) Baethke of Nevada, Darla (& Danny) Owens of Montezuma, and Deeadra “Dee Dee” (& Dan) Phillips of Montezuma; his grandchildren: Spencer Brothersen, Stuart Brothersen, Alaina Brothersen, Cade (& Jenay) Baethke, Payton (& Laura) Baethke, Carson (& Folasade) Baethke, Kramer Baethke, Adam Owens, Abby Owens, Josh Phillips, Maleah Phillips and Kennedy (& Meliek) Meyer; eight great grandchildren: Cooper Owens, Jagr Baethke, Nash Baethke, Banks Baethke. Jadesayo Baethke, Sean Forsythe, Nickolas Forsythe and Alexander Forsythe; his siblings: Alma Richards, Arla (& Jerry) Hull, Keith (& Betty) Simpson, and Georgia Schroeder; as well as many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Lela Simpson; his wife “the love of his life”, Virginia “Ginny” Simpson in 2008; and his brothers: Danny in infancy, and Bill Simpson.

Funeral services will begin Tuesday, October 9, 2018 beginning at 10:30 am at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 beginning at noon with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the family’s name to go towards a local children’s charity.
