8th Grade Girls Sprint Medley Team Sets School Record
by Coach Steve Kaisand
On Tuesday night, the 8th grade girls competed in the Little Hawkeye Conference track meet. It was a cold and windy evening, but at least it was dry! The last 2 meets had been canceled, so the girls hadn’t run in over 2 weeks. The girls competed hard in the 7 team field. They came away with 1 event championship on the night and it was the Sprint Medley team of Maddy Moorman, Lucy Roach, Kaia Munger, and Maleah Walker finishing in a school record time of 2:02.79. The girls broke the previous mark from 2012 of 2:02.87 held by Melanie Harvey, Tiffany Green, Brey Hill, and Tori Palmer. The same Indian quartet of Moorman, Roach, Munger, and Walker finished 2nd in the 4 x 200 in a time of 2:02.17. Walker rounded out the top 3 finishers for the night by earning a 2nd place finish in the 100 Meter Dash (13.55) and a 3rd place finish in long jump (14’3″). Earlier this season, Walker broke the school record in long jump by leaping 15′ 8.5″. That jump eclipsed the old mark from 1997 of 15′ 3.5″ from Megan Sash.
