The flag flying over the bandstand during the month of July is in honor of “Bob” Robert Shuman.

While in college at Oklahoma A & M, Bob enlisted in the Army and served on a teaching committee at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas from 1954-1956. Bob returned to Oklahoma State/Oklahoma A & M and graduated in 1958 with a degree in Agronomy. He went on to earn two master’s degrees at New Mexico State/New Mexico A & M then taught at Iowa State University until 1965 when he accepted a position at William Penn College. He retired from Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in 1995, where he served as an assistant vice-president and loan officer.
