Jack Dawley, 84 of New Sharon passed away Wednesday evening, May 3, 2017 at the Pella Hospice Comfort House. Jack Arlen Dawley “Silver Eagle”, the son of Harry and Iva June (Shafer) Dawley, was born on March 4, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas.

Jack graduated from New Sharon High School with the class of 1952. Jack entered the United States Air Force in October of 1952. While serving his country, Jack was united in marriage to Joan Allen in Middlesex, England on August 20th, 1955. To this union three daughters were born, Kim, Sharon and Teresa.

Following his honorable discharge in 1957, they moved to New Sharon where Jack farmed with his father. Jack farmed for several years in the New Sharon area. Following his retirement, Jack worked seasonally for Cargill.

Jack was a man of many adventures and was an avid Buckskinner, making many friends along the way. He loved to share his interest with others young and old. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cowboying and playing cards. One of Jack’s many talents was his coffee drinking with the Pronto Gang. He was a proud member of the 1950~1951 “undefeated” New Sharon football team.

Jack was a member of the New Sharon Flyer’s Club where he pursued one of his hobbies and adventures receiving his pilots license. He also belonged to the Iowa Long Rifle Association, the National Association of Primitive Rifleman and the Coffin-Miller American Legion Post #446 in New Sharon.

His memory will be cherished by his three daughters: Kim Silvers of Pella, Sharon Dawley of New Sharon and Teresa (& Nick) Burch of Searsboro; five grandchildren: Jaci Underwood, Brad (& Crystal) VanderLinden, Jill (& Bob) Westfall, Clayton Burch and Tye Burch; three great grandchildren: Lexi Underwood, Natalee VanderLinden and Paige VanderLinden; and many other cousins and friends.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; a granddaughter, Michelle Lynn Silvers; and a brother, David Dawley.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Monday, May 8, 2017 at the New Sharon First Christian Church with Pastor David Pinkerton and special celebrate, Rob Calkins officiating.
Burial with military honors will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pella Hospice Comfort House or the New Sharon Fire and Rescue.
