At #8, the men’s bowling team made quite a run as it sought out a national crown in its first trip to the Big Dance.

In their third appearance at the USBC Sectionals, the Statesmen finally advanced to nationals. The navy and gold rallied by leading all teams with a tournament-best 3,262 pins in the final block. WPU finished fourth out of 19 teams and extended its year to the final site in Lincoln, Neb.

At nationals, William Penn only placed 11th out of 16 teams during qualifying, but blitzed the higher-seeded competition in their first two matches. The navy and gold upset #6 West Texas A&M and then dropped #3 Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) to reach the Final Six. Unfortunately, the Statesmen’s luck ran out with back-to-back losses, including one to the eventual champion Robert Morris (Ill.). It was the team’s eighth top-ten placing of the year.

The future is extremely bright for WPU as no one from the varsity squad graduated.
