Oskaloosa–Continuing to advance the NAIA’s Champions of Character initiative has been one of the highest priorities for the William Penn Athletics Department, and one team excelled more than any other to earn the #5 spot on this year’s top-ten list.

The women’s indoor track and field team was highlighted in February as the NAIA Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team of the Year. It was the second award in less than a year as the women’s golf team picked up the honor during the spring of 2012.

The award is given annually to the team that best represents the five core values the NAIA embraces, which includes respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.

The squad made its largest impact in servant leadership with projects done in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, YMCA, American Association of University Women, Salvation Army, and Special Olympics.
