2018 Iowa State Fair 4-H Communications Results
4-H members from Mahaska County were selected to advance to the Iowa State Fair during the 4-H Communications Event at the Southern Iowa Fair. 4-H’ers were selected in the areas of Share-the-Fun, Educational Presentations, Working Exhibits, and Extemporaneous Speaking. Communications is one of the program priority areas of 4-H. 4-H members are strongly encouraged to give presentations and interact with others both verbally and non-verbally during the year. 4-H strives to provide a positive experience for our youth while teaching them many important life skills. Share-the-Fun is an opportunity for youth to share a talent and show off a skill. Educational Presentations provide 4-H’ers the opportunity to give a verbal presentation or demonstration on a specific topic of their choosing to a group of people. Working Exhibits help to educate others through hands-on activities and crafts. Extemporaneous Speaking is for senior-level 4-H members to briefly research a topic related to 4-H and give a presentation to a crowd on what they were able to research and organize in the allotted time.
