Area Students submitted work to the “Up and Coming Artist’ art show hosted at the Iowa Building in Oskaloosa on Wednesday evening.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Every June, Art on the Square makes its return to downtown Oskaloosa, and with it, the Skunk River Arts Festival. On Wednesday afternoon, the Iowa Building opened its doors to help host the artists works.

The Fine Arts and Cultural Events (FACE) board held the first of many events leading up to Art on the Square. The first was started off by some local youth, with their creative efforts being displayed at the recently restored historic ‘Iowa Building’.

You can join FACE in celebrating RAGBRAI’s arrival to town by submitting artwork, no larger than 11″x 14″. It may be entered in the form of drawing (marker, crayon, pencil), painting or sculpture (clay, paper mache, etc).

Artwork that is submitted must include Oskaloosa’s theme for RAGBRAI, ‘Ride Hard – Dance Harder’, somewhere in the piece.

All entries must be submitted at Art on the Square, June 8th by 4pm for judging. Artwork should be submitted to the FACE of Mahaska County table on the east side of the bandstand.

The top winner will be entered into RAGBRAI’s official contest with each of the 8 overnight towns for a chance at a $350 prize.

All entries will go on to be included in our RABRAI/Oskaloosa Kids’ Art Show to be on display in the Iowa Building during RAGBRAI.
