Eddyville has been pulling out all the stops for it’s Eddy-Fest 2010.

Friday started off the event with the carnival rides and the beginning of the slow pitch softball tournament at the Frog Pond from 6 pm to 12 am. Saturday is the big day, with the carnival rides going from 9 am to 11 pm. The parade was sponsored by the Ruritans. It marched it’s way into downtown Eddyville starting at 10 am. A car show started right after the end of the parade on the south side of the city park right after the parade. Slow pitch softball was continuing at the Frog Pond.

Later Saturday night, 8 pm starts the live entertainment at Ford’s Bar & Grill featuring Phoenix, Inch Jack and 3rd Generation.

Various other items of interest are BINGO 11 am to 4 pm in the park, Girl Scout activities, Organized Bean Bag toss, and many other activities.

One of those items on display is a display by the State Historical Society of Iowa. It is a traveling display called History on the Move. It highlights President Lincoln’s connections to Iowa. Examples being that he owned land in Iowa, and had a hand in transportation and bridges such as the first bridge to cross the Mississippi River.

“The Governor’s Own” Co. “A” 49th Rgt. Iowa Infantry was on hand to help raise money and draw support for the Civil War statue and monument that is in need of repair. “There is a 12 foot Civil War monument in a city park in Eddyville. The soldier has a knapsack on his back. There are names of soldiers inscribed on four sides but many are worn and difficult to read. It is said the monument was built shortly after the war and then rebuilt in 1911. The right hand of the soldier and the upper part of the musket are missing. The monument needs cleaning. It is located on Main Street and S Third Street one block south of the business district. Efforts are underway, including the local historical society and the SUVCW, to restore the monument”
