Oskaloosa, Iowa – The November election is almost a month behind us, but for one newly elected official, the job has already started.

Amy Zenor is Mahaska County’s newest county attorney, replacing the appointed Charles Stream. Stream was appointed in April of 2013 by the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors in a 2-1 vote. Only outgoing supervisor Greg Gordy dissented.

Zenor ran for the position as a Republican. She was unopposed for the position and was officially sworn in on Monday, November 10th.

Zenor began her time in the Mahaska County Attorney’s Office during a string of events that began when then County Attorney Rose Ann Mefford was appointed District Associate Judge for Sub-District 8A. She then served under Stream until her election. “Charles has been a great mentor. He gave me a good perspective,” said Zenor. Stream has been a fixture not only in the Mahaska County Attorney’s Office for some time, but has been an integral part of the local legal system for many years.

“I also had great leadership from Rose Ann Mefford, now Honorable Judge Mefford,” says Zenor.

Zenor also credits the help of Missy White during the transition between Mefford and Stream.

“I’ve had the benefit of many different perspectives,” says Zenor.

Zenor is a 2012 graduate of Drake Law School and the Mahaska County Attorneys Office was her first place of employment after graduation. Her first day on the job was December 10, 2012.

Zenor says that her time in Mahaska County and the County Attorney’s office has been “an amazing experience. I’ve been very lucky and blessed to work with the local bar and to have the mentors and leaders I’ve had.”

“I have nothing but good things to say about the legal community here and the community in general,” added Zenor.

Her first day on the job was the day Bradley Arterburn was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. “It was a very eye-opening experience for me to see that judicial process play out.”
