Yvonne Fahlenkamp, 91 of Montezuma passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, October 28, 2014 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma. Lela Yvonne Fahlenkamp, the daughter of John and Lillie (Luethje) Collins, was born on August 24, 1923 in Hartley, Iowa.
Yvonne graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942. She married Don Fahlenkamp on April 2, 1944. To this union they raised seven children: Sharon, Lanny, Jacque, Michael, Lana, Patricia, and Lewis.
Don and Yvonne lived in Hartley, IA and Kimballton, IA before relocating their family to Montezuma in 1953, when Don accepted a position at the Montezuma Light and Power Plant. Yvonne absolutely loved her family. She was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Yvonne was a very talented seamstress. She made and sewed her children’s clothing when they were younger.
Yvonne enjoyed writing poetry, traveling, playing cards with her friends and golfing in her younger years. Yvonne also enjoyed going to the casino’s with Don and was a very good bowler and artist.
Left to honor and cherish her memory are her six children: Sharon (& Danny) Oliverson of Oskaloosa, Lanny (& Caroline) Fahlenkamp of Centennial, CO, Jacque (& Howard) Johnston of Montezuma, Michael (& Vicki) Fahlenkamp of Montezuma, Lana (& Jack) Taylor of Montezuma and Patricia (& Margi) Collins of Montezuma; a brother, James (& Kathy) Collins of Morgan, UT; 20 grandchildren; and she was blessed with many, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie Collins; her husband, Don Fahlenkamp; a son, Lewis Fahlenkamp; a grandson, Troy Fahlenkamp; and four siblings: Lewis Collins, Katherine Hart, Verla Olson and Phyllis Conlon.
As was her wish, her body has been cremated and no services are planned.
A private family inurnment will be held in the Jackson Township Columbarium in Montezuma, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Don and her son, Lewis.
