WPU Starts Campaign at Friends Classic

Wichita, Kan.–The William Penn women’s goal team opened its fall season by competing at the Friends Classic Monday and Tuesday.

The Statesmen finished fourth out of seven teams with a two-round score of 684 (337-349) at the par-71 Tallgrass Country Club. Park claimed the top spot with a score of 633 (315-318).

Micaela Suhl of Park claimed individual medalist honors, finishing with a score of 154 (75-79).

Olivia Quail (So., South Lyon, Mich., Sport Management) remained consistent over the two-day tournament, carding rounds of 85 and 83 as her 168 tied for 14th.

Emma Kipfer (Fr., Albia, Iowa, Business Management) at 89 and 81 (170), and Amelia Meador (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kinesiology) at 82 and 90 (172), both finished in the top 20, at 16th and 19th respectively.

Chloe Jacques (So., Chatham, Ontario, Political Science) opened strong with an 81 on Monday, but fell off pace with a 97 on Tuesday to finish 25th at 178. Ashlynn Long (Fr., Reno, Nev., Exercise Science) finished in 33rd, shooting 96 and 95 (191), while Gabriella Honesto (Jr., Lubbock, Texas, Kinesiology), playing as an individual, wrapped it up for the Statesmen, finishing in 38th, shooting 99 and 103 (202).

“The weather played a major role throughout the tournament, but the team showed resilience and determination,” Graduate Assistant Coach Chirara Sturaro said. “After a strong first-round performance, challenging conditions made the second round tougher. We are proud of the fight, growth, and willingness to compete that our team showed this week. We will get back to work and prepare for our next event.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Orange City, Iowa next Tuesday and Wednesday to compete in the Siouxland Invitational. Play will be contested at Landsmeer Golf Course and The Ridge Golf Course.
